Andrew James is a one of a kind. Born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in three additional states, he was brought up with a variety of musical styles and artists that influenced his playing. The acoustic guitar has always fascinated Andrew. As a young child, his parents gave him Phil Keaggy’s masterful Beyond Nature album to soothe him to sleep, and that disc was listened to nearly every night until he was 10. He grew up in a Christian household and became a Christian at a young age. Andrew now resides in Nashville, Tennessee, which he happily is able to call home. 

 

In October of 2011 the musical journey began with his first guitar purchase (Ruby). Working quickly, he was able to get his first video up on YouTube in July of 2012 (click here to watch). November of that year, he purchased some recording equipment, and that’s when Andrew got more serious about his music. He started with a simple 4 song EP (unreleased), then a few singles, then ONE EP, ONE EP no. 2, and many more projects are currently in the works (all available on Noisetrade for free). 

 

The journ continued as Andrew grew in his playing and writing abilities. His guitar teacher at the time, Lance Allen, set up a private 2-on-1 jam session/guitar lesson with the very same Phil Keaggy Andrew fell asleep to every night as a child. This encounter provided lots of inspiration, and further connection to Phil’s unique style. 

 

Influenced by other artists such as Trace Bundy (tapping techniques), Jimmy Wahlsteen (multiple instruments), and Adam Cantor (fingerpicking technique as well as cleanliness of playing), Andrew has created his own unique mix of techniques and musical styles. He enjoys recording in his home studio which he uses to accomplish his goal of creating and producing wonderful original music.
